Door

“Where shall I look
for the soul’s way out? I want to go
to the pool in the last circle, the central spring.”

–        Nana Lampton

ENTER!

The door swings out.

From the other side

presto! An EXIT.

Is there any way to enter
once and for all?

    Maybe you’re the Wingèd One,

the celestial Mail Carrier, your route

from Heaven to Hades, with stops

on Earth to wave and blow me kisses.

Good news today – I have to say

    it’s about time! – a cure

   for Alzeimer’s, a war

    ended, lovers reconciled.

    You hang around long enough

to celebrate with me – iced

    coffee, iced tea, a slice

of carrot cake. Then off you go.

I remember the Rule: for better and

for worse, this too shall pass.
